| Oil painting discovery including painting images, techniques and commentary on historical and contemporary painters. | |||||
Entry for March 24, 2006 ![]() Worked yesterday on a small portrait painting. Actually it was a rework because I thought I was finished with it several times before. It took about half a day to completely repaint this small portrait. I used some extremely powerful reading glasses and I got lost in the process. Very much like meditation. Reading glasses are half type, so by having them lower on my nose, I was able to step back and view it altogether as well as very close. I really feel that it is a powerful portrait. It is a made up image, there was no model but the coloration and features represent my best work. I have been playing around recently with reflected light in my portraits. Often altering the color of the reflected light. I have about 15 paintings in rotation now that I am working on. It is such a pleasure to come out and choose the image that I will be working on. Generally I am working on about two images a day. Every time that I think that I am finished with a painting, I come back into the studio and find that it could be improved with form clarification here or a glaze there. Either my level of acceptance is becoming more difficult to achieve, or I am receiving new inspiration through the reconnecting with the images. What an incredible pleasure painting is. 2007-04-09 19:52:37 GMT
